Why December (டிசம்பர்) is Written as Thicember ( திசம்பர் ) in Tamizh?

When i entered chennai few days back,  i saw lot of posters saying "Tamizhar Irayanmai Manadu"  on திசம்பர் 26.

I wondered why it is written like that, why the name is localized all of a sudden?  i know there are many words like that China is written as seena,

Is this how they save the tamizh?  They have changed the written and pronounce format for January, June, July and December.  I guess it because of Ja, Ju can't be written using tamizh alphabets.  But why did they left February? May be that is why they don't keep this meetings on Feb :)

Leave this localization for sometime,  that title actually interested me, so wanted to know the agenda.  So I searched for Thirumavalan speech in youtube and i found it also,  for first 10 mins he didn't even utter a single word which is related to the title and i couldn't watch it any further.  And also he said "nam vaitha digital bannergalai kizhikirargal"  I don't know from when digital banner become tamizh.  I'm so pity for the people who believe in this kind of stunts.  'Cinema and Dravidian politics' is fading and 'Language and Dravidian' politics rising again?

PS: I'm not against Tamizh, I hate people who use language as a tool for there own gain

Jog falls Masoon Trip Day 1

8:10 myself Sathish Venky started from indiranagar

8:45 we joined with Thiyagu  & santhosh who were waiting in majestic bus stand already, only left out group is arun & co

We had dinner and waiting for and Arun and co, they are used to be late we found the platform and got it into the bus.. Final few minutes I got a call from that he has reached bus stand finally and we are in the platform 4,  were are you guys.

Day 1

Jul 31: morning around 7:30 our bus reached jog falls, but our room check in time is at 12PM only,  our plan is to visit kodachadri & kollur or murudheswar temple.  We have entered the jog falls had a short visit to falls, by that time Santhosh went to enquire about any possibility of early check in at-least one room for refreshment, others had quick look at the falls and went to enquire about cabs.  We found a cab he suggested two plans, Murudheswar & Kollur or Murudheswar & Gokarna and cost is 1.3K fixed if we travel more than 200 kms then 6 Rs/km but my plan is to do trekking in kodachadri but unfortunately many was not agreeing with me. we had a small discussion and decided to goto murudheshwar & kollur since other plans is both beach and there may not be any aqua sports since it is monsoon by the time Santhosh came the good news that there is no possibility of early check in,  the cab Anna suggested some other hotel were we can do refreshments, finally after refreshments we came to mayura restaurant and had breakfast and signed in the check-in register since we will return in the night only and started to murudheshwar.

Route from jog falls to murudheswar was really nice,  full of greenish dense forest and many local falls since it was monsoon Season.  We left Arun family in the front side, myself devi Santhosh in the last row and Venky Thiyagu and Sathish in the middle row facing backwards,  I accept sitting in middle row and facing backward in the ghat section driving is horrible but it was not even 20 kms. Venky started the show "Anna please stop the vehicle" don't ask me what he ate in the break fast, I'm not good in remembering the big list ;) after many such scenes we have reached a place called honavar.

Honavar is 30 kms before murudheshwar, our driver said that we may not be allowed to get into beach at murudheshwar so if we want to get into beach there is one place in honavar, we all said yes and went to that honavar beach,  everyone went to beach and started playing in the water, I was little hesitant after saw the water Color it was in red color due to fresh rains.  Someone searched the place and found a coconut which was almost the size of cricket ball other found small wooden piece which they used as bat starter playing the game in our blood cricket on the beach,  all the time I was busy in taking photos and testing all the modes in my new DSLR.  One old guy going on the way stopped his bike and came to us and started chatting, this place is very nice, it's good that you stopped here cops are not allowing anyone to enter into the beach in murudheswar due to killer waves,  mostly photographers was killed by the killer waves, since they concentrate on the camera and photos and don't care about what is happening around looking at me, why he said that to me, do i look like photographer? Wow.

Suddenly i saw something different happening in the beach, no no it was not killer wave :) our guys made Santhosh lie on the beach and started covering him with sand,  I just went near to see what they are trying to do,  Thiyagu and Arun were discussing seriously about mermaid.  Venky was running away from them towards the cab, I guessed they are trying out to make one more mermaid out of him and I was correct.  So they left Venky and started concentrating on Santhosh mermaid,  main architect was Thiyagu and Arun, some time passed a mermaid was finally made, I took making video, Santhosh wanted to get out the of the beach, he was lucky one big wave came and wiped every hard work of our architects in seconds,  wave should have showed some mercy to Arun at-least, he rarely put hard work nowadays though he doesn't do the same in office.

It's time for Venky, Thiyagi went to catch Venky and drag him to the beach following him sathish also went, nobody can escape from thiyagi, so how come the pity Venky can escape?  they both dragged him into the beach and started making a new mermaid, unfortunately it turned out to be like a octopus and that also didn't last for few mins one more mermaid killer wave saved Venky.  We spent nearly 2 hrs in the beach everyone took fresher water bath in the near by home, we are already short of time so kollur is now doubtful, just before everyone gets into change of dress rain started, everyone started drenching in the fresh rain, till now I've controlled myself and taking photos, not anymore, jumped out of the cab and joined the team, kollur is now moved from doubtful to not able.

You know why only Venky and Santhosh are being targeted?  They last in the general election as dictated by democracy.

After spent nearly 3hrs we have started to murudheshwar,  we have reached there around 3PM and had lunch at kamat,  visited the temple, everyone was excited to see such a huge shiva statue and narrow tall tower of the temple, i've been to murudheswar already and spent nearly one day there so it was not a big surprise to me but it is pleasure again to be there.

Fall in love with Roja

Yesterday i watched Mainrathnam's Roja movie again,  venky bought the DVD from PlanetM.   This time the feel was different,  Roja's character is amazing in the movie.

In scenes like, Roja showing angry with Rishi for rejecting her sister and married her, but the truth is Rishi was rejected by roja's sister because she loves someone else and rishi's decision only made her love into reality.   When Roja comes to know about the truth the way she changes herself and the dialogues in that scene is really good.

Rishi goes to kashmir to help army to decode a message and army agrees to give full protection for him in kashmir.

After rishi got kidnapped by terrorist, they way she runs behind the car and explaining everything to the police even though she don't know local language hindi.

Rishi is kidnapped by terrorist and terrorist gave death threat for rishi if govt. will not release wasim terrorist leader,  Roja is from small village not aware the situation in Kashimir, not aware of what is going on, not able to understand the language they speak, she never cries instead makes her mind very strong and fights hard to get rishi back

Fighting with Colonel Rayappa, We lost many commandos while catching the wasim if we release in exchange for rishi everything will go waste and after release wasim will kill many more innocent people, she listens everything and finally says if the terrorist captured a minister son/daughter will you say the same thing?

Government agrees to release wasim and Rayappa convey the message to Roja "I'm very happy, you will get your husband, politicians will get good name by getting a scientist back, i'm very happy, captured wasim after hard work he will bye bye leave, very happy, 15 army men died while arresting wasim now everything going waste, very happy, Wasim will go out and kill many more people, very happy"   Roja understands emotions of Rayappa at the same she could not leave her love

At the end Rishi managed to escape from terrorist and reaches the safe hands, Roja got her love back and Wasim is in the hands of Army.  Both Roja and Rayyapa wishes fulfilled.

Roja characterization is very strong in the moive from innocent village girl to strong women at the end, the way her character explained in the movie is wonderful, hats off to Manirathnam sir for giving such a wonderful movie and a good start to A.R. Rahman in the movie.

Did anyone noticed this in the movie,  Telephone manipol song from indian movie came as a BGM in Roja.  When Rishi goes to see Roja's sisters in village it comes

Few pics using my new DSLR

After my cannon SD950 Digital camera broken, i wanted to buy new camera this time i thought of going for DSLR, Did some small (re)search in internet and short listed two DSLRs which was in my budget and entry level DSLRs. 1) Nikon D5000 with kit lens (Rs. 34.5K) 2) Cannon 550D with kit lens (Rs. 45K)

After going though many reviews and considering my requirements I've decided to go for nikon D5000 DSLR

Things i considered while choosing Nikon D5000
  • Both has HD video recording and HDMI built-in port, Nikon 720p with 24 fps and Canon 1080p with 30fps, right now i've a 22" LCD HD monitor both 720p and 1080p looks almost same in that monitor
  • Nikon has better Continuous Shooting Speed 4fps when compare to 550D 3.4fps
  • Auto Focus 11 focus points compare to 9 in 550D
  • Vari-angle monitor, very useful when taking low angle, high angle or any odd angle photos, Canon has fixed lcd display tho it has 3" high resolution LCD
  • In-camera retouching, Active D-Lighting, RAW Development, Interval shooting, Stop motion movies
  • Last but not least is obviously 10K factor

There are three dealers in Bangalore for nikon D5000

Nikon Site quoted price Rs. 38K
Whizz - Rs. 38K
GK-Value - Rs. 38K if you want to buy i can get you a good deal ( obviously i wanted to buy,  don't when showrooms become road side shops )
Croma - Rs. 34.5K + 1K for addition 2yrs warranty cash back if the model is outdated that time ( optional )

Yes, i've chosen Croma

Savandurga one day bike trip

Distance: 60Km
Route : Map
Type : Trekking

Dec 14 2008: We are bored of this bangalore weekend life wanted to go out some where. We searched the internet for some one day outing and found savanadurga (savanadurga is largest monolith hill in the world ref:wikipedia) it is around 60KM from Indira Nagar, this time we got one more person in our team and a bike too our very own sathish it is. We have started around 5:30AM from Indira Nagar in three bikes myself and Thiyagi in R15, Arun and Sathish in their Apache bikes. We took this path indira nagar-> magadi road-> savanadurga. Sathish just bought his bike still in initial running period so he was drive slowly, myself and arun was tempting by driving above 110KMPH on main roads, we drive for 10 kms and wait for sathish to join us, after sometime sathish forgot about the running period he also started driving fast, that is the way he is. Everything went fine until we took left from magadi road towards savanadurga, few kilometers away from savanadurga the road was not that great so slow downed the speed to 80kmph, still high speed for that road condition, myself and thiyagi realized it in 5 mins.

In one right turn our half side of the road was good and other side was bad, one car was coming in the oppside side took our side so we had to get down from the road, i've cut down the speed to 10kmph still off the road was too slipper our bike got skid, next thing i know was myself lying in front of the bike, where is thiyagi? lying even beyond me, just few feet next to him was 20-30 feet depth valley. Arun and Sathish stopped their bikes and come running, i stood up did't even checked what happened to myself or thiyagi went to bike and started checking everything is fine. Sathish went to check what happened to thiyagi, nothing major happened to bike, aaahhhh.

Then only i realized my both hand and leg knees are bleeding lightly and it seemed nothing happened to thiyagi until he removed his sunglass, actually his sunglass cut his nose near eyes, bleeding was not stopping, arun took first aid kit from his bike and starting giving first aid to thiyagi. Someone on the way from local area guided us to a hospital. Two stitches on the cut without any anesthetic, that is what available in that place. All took some rest in that small hospital, here comes the real comedy after all this mess myself and arun wanted to goto savanadurga which is few kms away, thiyagi wants to goto Bangalore by bus not by bike.

Arun & Siva: Lets goto savanadurga
Thiyagi: Lets go back to blr or Leave me i'm going to blr via bus (luckily there are some buses leaves from that town to blr)
Arun : Sathish what say?
Sathish: Lest goto savanadurga
Thiyagi: Sathish what we will do?
Sathish: Lets go back to blr
Arun : Lets goto savanadurga, it is few kms away only, we will not do trek just to see the place

Arun and myself somehow convinced thiyagi and again started to savanadurga in bikes :)

Reached savanadurga, arun said we will go to the starting point of the trek, we went there there was two way to reach the top, one was very steep but short another was not that steep but bit long, arun is very adventures forgot all the words he said before that and started climbing on the first way, following him myself and sathish started, thiyagi shouted and stayed in the foothills and took his favorite phone and dialed the favorite number, reached some distance then realized this is not the way for us. Getting down in that 1st way is pretty difficult and dangerous. Myself and sathish just started climbing as we got down easily, but arun climbed too much distance, he struggled a lot get down see the following very funny video how he got down

Sathish wanted to accompany thiyagi may be he is scared or he also wanted to dial his favorite number, myself and arun started to climb in the second way we have reached the top by that time all the water bottles we carried was over, there was one small boy selling water and some juices on the top.

Arun: how much is the appy fizz ?
Boy : 30Rs
Arun: in that village it is 10Rs only (showing the village in the foothills from the top)
Boy : go to the village and get it for 10rs

I loved the response from him, we had no choice bought two tetra pack for 60 rs. Enjoyed the scenery around the place and started getting down from the top if we spend more time thiyagi and sathish will kill us, while getting down we were discussing it is very steep no support to hold also, so walk very carefully (put you feet like these, no no like these), suddenly there was one sound 'water!!!', someone was calling for water from the middle of the hill that small boy on the top took one water bottle and started running he crossed us and went to them to sell the water bottle. We were discussing the strategy to get down but that small boy was running on the steep as if it is plain ground. We shut our mouths and stopped discussing the strategies. We had something in the nearby village and started back to bangalore, this time we took some shortcut which leads to BLR-Mysore high way from Savandurga.

Resolutions after the trip

Siva: Don't drive fast on the non-high way roads
Thiyagi: Don't go with these guys in bike
Everyone: Pillion rider should also wear helmet in bike trips :)

Maiden bike trip to Shivanasamudra

Oct 11 2008: Finally the time came i've decided to buy Yamaha R15 bike and Arun just bought his TVS apache. Oct 10th evening i got my bike delivered, 11th morning 6'O clock myself in my bike, Arun and Thiyagi in TVS apache started our journey at 40 kmph :)

Our plan is to do river rafting in Bheemeshwari, we took the path Bangalore->Kanakapura->Cauvery Fishing Camp, some how we managed to reach the camp by 10 AM, there comes our villan all river rafting slots are full, no way to squeezes ourself on the raft after 4 hour journey on the awful roads. We had no plan B, we don't know where to go now. Someone in the fishing camp suggested Mutthathi and Shivanasamudra were we can find some breakfast and scenic spots.

Thiyagi went to shivanamaudra one week back only, he suggested that falls. We kicked our bikes towards shivanasamudra falls, we saw one tender coconut shop that is our breakfast and lunch too :( There are two spots in sivanasamudram (Gaganachuki, Bharachuki). First we went to Gaganachuki, woooow what a falls, very nice view from the opposite mountain top, we spent some time there.

Then started to Bharachuki, we walked down to bottom of the falls and took bath for hours in one of the falls drop. Then the took the coracle ride to the main falls, it was pleasant and dangerous too, especially when they rotate the boat at very high speed on the 60feet deep water.

Around 5PM we started back to bangalore from shivanasamudra, In one small village we had coffee and snacks, after that i started first, arun and thiyagi followed me, after sometime there was no sign of them i slow downed my speed suddenly one jeep over took me at very fast speed and blocked my way, two villagers get down from that jeep shouting in kannada and took my bike key i was shocked and not getting what they are saying, after few mins my friends bike came and arun started talking with them and he gave Rs.300 to them then they gave back the key and went. Arun started explaining the whole story, thiyagi started driving the bike after coffee, he ran over a chicken in that village and waited for sometime for the owner to come nobody turned up, so they started from there, after sometime they realized it and started chasing us. Only one thing still i don't get is villagers crossed my friends bike and drove few kms and blocked my bike, even though i was not in the scene :(

After all this confusion again we started, it was pitch dark, no lights on the road and rain also started.

Arun: Don't stop the bike even if someone ask for lift
Thiyagi: Don't top the bike even if someone need help like, bike repair
Siva: Why?
Arun: they may rob us
Siva: Okay

(paranoia about everything around us)

It was around 9PM we are still 60 kms far from bangalore, we are started feeling some what secured. Heavy rain started no were to hide, riding in the heavy rain after few kilometers we spot a community hall, parked the bikes nearby and went to find some place to hide, one marriage is going on, biriyani smell is all over the place (someone inside our mind saying no proper food since morning, don't feel shy go inside :D), we controlled our emotions, waited for the rain to stop and we kicked the bikes again but this time break the rule of 40kms zipped our bike to the max in no time we reached BTM layout and entered Dominos for dinner, every in the dominos gave a very odd look at us, we were completely drenched and our trousers covered with mud, we never bothered about the look, we want only food... food... food...
